It’s cold in Edmonton – deal with it

Posted by Scott C. Bourgeois On December - 12 - 2009

It gets cold here in Edmonton. Usually around the time January rolls around, we see a few days with abysmally cold temperatures. And on those days when the temperature falls below the -30 Celsius mark, I’m usually left astonished by two types of people who’ve been living in Edmonton for years. Read the rest of this entry »

FML Friday – eff harder

Posted by Adam Rozenhart On December - 11 - 2009

Welcome to another FML Friday, wherein either Scott or myself take to task the writers of FML entries, either for being pathetic, obviously fake, or oblivious to how ridiculous they are. It’s like an advice column for d-bags. Remember, it’s all in fun; these people post this stuff on the web, which means we get to make fun of them. Read the rest of this entry »

Write a review about Unknown Studio on iTunes and win!

Posted by Adam Rozenhart On December - 8 - 2009

I’m not going to lie to you, I love it when people talk about me. Good or bad, I’ve always been one of those people who craved the spotlight. Thankfully, aside from the few times I was threatened with libel lawsuits when I worked for the aforementioned Leaky Death Ship, when I have been in the spotlight, it’s been mostly good.

Given my propensity to seek out stuff people say about me, I’m dismayed every time I check out the Unknown Studio on iTunes. Oh sure, some of our listeners have given us star reviews, but what does 4.5 star even mean? Can I take that to someone and be like, “Look, dude: ALMOST FIVE STARS. Why won’t you just approve me for a freakin’ mortgage already!?” Read the rest of this entry »

Teeing up the undead

Posted by Adam Rozenhart On December - 8 - 2009

I rarely dream, or if I do I usually fail to remember my dreams. I may even have nightmares that I don’t remember, which is fine by me. But over the weekend, while I was asleep, I had a brainwave… about zombies.

I wouldn’t say I’m obsessed with zombie movies. As a genre, I don’t honestly know a whole lot about its development — though I’m fairly certain that 28 Days Later marked the first appearance of super-fast zombies. No, when it comes to the genre, I don’t know zombie movies… but I know what I like. Films like Dawn of the Dead, Shawn of the Dead, Zombieland, Night of the Living Dead, and I Am Legend are among my favourites. They may not all be great, but I enjoy ever last one of ‘em.

Unfortunately, as far as I know, no one has decided to set a zombie movie in the most obvious of places — the last playground of the well-to-do, the retired, and the nearly dead: the golf course. Read the rest of this entry »

Return of the Leaky Deathship

Posted by Scott C. Bourgeois On December - 7 - 2009

Ah, the Leaky Deathship – or as it is more commonly referred to, The Gateway.

Both Adam and I are former contributors to the University of Alberta’s very own student newspaper; I was an avid contributor and delivered papers around campus for a year, Adam had the slightly less respected position of Editor-in-Chief. Now, many of you are probably aware of our past with this institution, but you may not be aware that many of our guests are also former Gatewayers. Read the rest of this entry »

Episode the Thirteenth: the future of newspapers

Posted by Adam Rozenhart On December - 7 - 2009

I don’t know if you’ve heard about this, but newspapers are basically effed. They can’t continue to sell ads and print their product while other “media” are starting to move their content increasingly online. The printed paper will likely die with the last baby boomer (sorry Mum and Dad, but I read my news on the computer or on my phone). Read the rest of this entry »

About Me

Where \"me\" means \"us,\" really. This is the home of the Unknown Studio, a podcast based in Edmonton, AB. When we aren\'t casting pods, as it were, we\'re here posting content you\'ll no doubt find riveting and probably mostly apocryphal. But certainly worthy of comment.
