I’m sure many Edmontonians heard and were disgusted by the vicious, unprovoked attack on a City bus driver this week. According to passenger accounts, someone boarded the bus, got miffed that the driver wouldn’t allow him to ride unless he paid, and even when passengers fronted this guy the change to ride, he started punching the driver, dragging him off the bus and mercilessly beating him. An average afternoon in Edmonton?

I consider myself to be an average driver. I make the occasional mistake on the road, yes, but nothing serious and I have certainly never put anyone’s life in jeopardy. I imagine that most people in Edmonton would also consider themselves to be average drivers – or even good drivers.

So why do we have such a bad reputation, as some of the worst drivers in Canada?

2017 Expo, or Expon’t?

sunsphereYesterday, amidst much fanfare and hoopla and speeches about “the future of the city,” “legacy projects” and “other vagueries,” the City of Edmonton and the University of Alberta jointly announced that they have officially submitted their Expo 2017 bid to Heritage Canada.
