The Unknown Studio @ EDCUP | S02E18.5

Posted by Adam Rozenhart On March - 20 - 2011

This past weekend, Scott and I were invited to speak to a group of student journalists at EDCUP, a regional journalism conference put on by Canadian University Press and the Gateway at the University of Alberta. We decided to record that session and post it here in case anyone was interested in listening to what we had to say.

We had a lot of fun with our audience, and as you’ll hear, we had a lot of great questions and feedback too. We hope you enjoyed listening to our session, and we’re looking forward to giving more in the future.

A Twestival for the rest of us

Posted by Adam Rozenhart On March - 17 - 2011

Michael Flatley in Riverdance

Most people seem to have very strong feelings about Michael Flatley. Either they love him, and revere him as a sex god, or they hate him and would probably use his likeness for target practice, given the chance. But no matter what category you fit into, Riverdance-wise, there will definitely be something for you at Edmonton’s Twestival on March 24th.

YEG Twestival” is part of a global network of tweet-ups. They’re designed to raise money and awareness for local charities. The League of Extraordinary Media — which includes members from TheCharrette.ca, TrueBritl.com, UserCreatedContent.ca, TheEdmontonian.com, and The Unknown Studio — organized this year’s festival. This year, YEG Twestival will support the Edmonton Public School Foundation. Read the rest of this entry »

My first (and maybe last) PKN presentation

Posted by Adam Rozenhart On March - 11 - 2011

If Pecha Kucha is Japanese for “chit-chat,” what’s Japanese for, “Holy shit, why did we agree to do this?”

That’s the thought that occurred to me when Sean Healy and I decided we would give a presentation at Edmonton’s Pecha Kucha 9 at the Royal Alberta Museum on March 4th. Read the rest of this entry »

Music and wrestling | S02E18

Posted by Adam Rozenhart On March - 9 - 2011

Many of our regularly listeners will know that Scott and I have a tendency to nerd out on the show. We love hyper-geeky topics. But we also know that that’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

Scott and I are also fans of music. So we decided to bring on a guest from an up-and-coming Edmonton band. Ryan Ro, lead guitar and vocalist from The Accident Will joined us this episode to talk about his band, his sound, and his wrestling career, such as it was.

We have some great segments this week. Scott and I checked out Transcend Coffee’s new Jasper Avenue location earlier this week, I gave a talk at Pecha Kucha with Sean Healy, and Lauren from the Traveling Tickle Trunk brings us some Sex Talk.

Here’s the episode breakdown:

0:00: Intro – “the Iron Sheik”
1:34: Interview with Ryan Ro – “Wrestling”
10:16: The coffee scene downtown just added a major player
23:12: There’s still time to enter our “Most Embarrassing Moment” contest and win fabulous prizes
26:10: Interview with Ryan Ro – “The music”
44:36: Adam and Sean Healy speak at Pecha Kucha 9
53:20: “The Rowan Child,” a track from The Accident Will
57:06: Sex Talk with the Traveling Tickle Trunk
59:16: Interview with Ryan Ro – “Raising the band’s profile”
1:20:50: The Fast 15 with Ryan Ro
1:25:54: “It’s a trap,” another track from The Accident Will
1:30:00: Adam acts like a creep

Events in March you shouldn’t miss

Posted by Adam Rozenhart On March - 7 - 2011

The Ides of March, the time in this city when citizens — long pulverized by the endless cold — begin looking forward to the graceful arrival of spring, the browning of roads and snow, and the uncovering of grass. Riiiiiight.

And yet, most of us are having trouble remembering the Warm Times™. Most of us are in a dark pit of cold despair, marred by chapped lips, frozen tears and rising gas prices.

So to take your mind off things, we’ve got a listing of events you can’t miss this month — you can’t miss them because we won’t miss them.

Here are some Edmonton Events in March, according to the Unknown Studio Read the rest of this entry »
