Fashion in Edmonton | S02E23

Posted by Adam Rozenhart On May - 18 - 2011

You might not know this, but Scott and I are fashionable. At least, that’s what CityandDale.com founder and editor Kendall Barber told us. Fashion is one of those words that can be pretty loaded for some people, but Kendall took us through her idea of fashion, and what it means to be fashionable in Edmonton. It was a great chat. Kendall is going places, right here in Champion City.

Here’s the show breakdown:

0:00: Intro – “Fashion Sense”
0:54: City and Dale… and Fashion!
17:04: “May” is for “Masturbation” – Sex Talk with Lauren
20:53: Fashionable since age four
42:04: Adam rants… about demographics and Next Gen
45:48: Yelping at D’Lish
53:50: Adam’s continuing weight-loss journey
1:00:30: Contributing to Edmonton’s fashion
1:05:04: Fast Fifteen with Kendall Barber

Podcasting ain’t no thang

Posted by Adam Rozenhart On May - 9 - 2011

Except that podcasting IS, in fact, a “thang.”

Scott and I have been wrangling this here podcast for almost two years now. And the results have been, to my mind, astonishing. I know we talk an awful lot about it, but we’re pretty proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish. And we’ve hit yet another milestone.

The Unknown Studio is now debt-free!

Thanks in no small part to our sponsors — The Traveling Tickle Trunk and Guru Digital Arts College — we’ve paid off hosting costs, equipment costs, music royalty costs, incorporation costs, etc. It’s a very exciting time for us. And it means we now have our very own, somewhat-portable home studio.

Since we started, we’ve been fortunate enough to have the use of a professional studio, thanks to Scott’s benevolent employers. It’s been unreal, actually. The quality of sound you hear on our show would not be possible without access to the space. But we’re quite limited as to when we can record, since they have, you know, a radio station to run.

So now we have our own recording studio that we can access at any time (and drink beer while using!) that features:

Your favourite local podcast continues to grow. We’ve become more ambitious, more ballsy, and more awesome over the last two years. And as we approach two huge milestones — our second birthday and our 50th episode — we’ve also become more self-centred and more self-impressed, but I honestly think it’s just a phase. For Scott.

Thanks to our wonderful sponsors, as we mentioned. To the Edmonton Journal for continuing to pimp our brand. To our guests for agreeing to suffer our company for as many as two hours at a time. And especially to our listeners for always supporting us.

Please comment, email us, and let us know how we’re doing, good and bad. We want to become YOUR source for hilarious Edmonton happenings. And next on our list of conquests: Calgary!

Summer blockbusters | S02E22

Posted by Adam Rozenhart On May - 4 - 2011

It’s almost summertime, and you know what that means, don’t you? Air-conditioned movie theatres and hot, buttered popcorn. And if you’ve listened to our show even just once, you’ll know Scott and I are huge movie buffs. So we decided to have “Mondo” Jay Runham on our show to talk about all the crazy, special-effects-laden blockbusters coming out this summer.

Here’s the show breakdown:

0:00: Intro – “Buttery Goodness”
1:15: Mondo Jay and mondo summer movies
22:28: Letters! We have letters!
26:26: Superhero movies
44:10: April Story Slam(s)!
54:25: Dramatic Reading – Scandanavian Brownies
57:06: Hangovers and Hangovers 2
1:03:15: Fast 15 with Mondo Jay Runham
