Hitting the Links – Saturday June 18, 2011

Posted by Scott C. Bourgeois On June - 18 - 2011

Another week, another bunch of weirdness on the Internet.

Fortunately, I use my twitter feed to keep you apprised of some of the juiciest bits of Internet. And at the end of the week, it all gets compiled here for your reviewing pleasure.

So, lets hit the links, friends. 18 Internet spots worth checking out. As always, the Front Nine are a collection of shorter hits for those who don’t have a lot of time, while the Back Nine is where the longer material ends up.

Get your golf-cart fired up. Here we go. Read the rest of this entry »

Hitting the Links – Saturday June 11, 2011

Posted by Scott C. Bourgeois On June - 11 - 2011

Here’s something new and fun.

I’m trying to get in the habit of making use of my twitter feed for more than just mindless, raving madness. Instead, a more constructive use is to post interesting links for people to follow to unusual corners of the Internet.

It’s all an eclectic mix of neat products, interesting news, fun videos, hilarious comics, and other such nonsense.

So, with that in mind, I’m going to start doing a weekly roundup of the links I posted. And in keeping with that witty golf reference I used for the title – we’re going to look at 18 “Internet holes” I recommend from the past 7 days.

The “Front Nine” will be smaller hits for the net-golfer on the go – a selection of shorter links that you can get in with your buddies before lunch. Things get a bit lengthier in the “Back Nine”, for folks who are settling in for a longer game.

Caddy and clubs not included.

[CONTEST]: Humiliation is fun!

Posted by Adam Rozenhart On February - 7 - 2011

We’ve all experienced those embarrassing moments. You know, something happens to you in front of a group of people and you experience a deep sense of mortification. This sense is immediately followed by instantaneous flashes in your brain of, “Why me?” and “If there was a sufficiently large rock I could crawl under right now, I would.”

This is often followed immediately by a sense of indignation, where you think, “This is ridiculous. I did nothing to deserve this,” and you curse the fate.

Of course, this all happens within seconds, before anyone even has the chance to laugh at your outrageous misfortune.

And, dear readers, these are precisely the stories we want to hear. Because they will enable you to win fabulous prizes.

In order to launch the Unknown Studio’s Gift of Gab Listener Line™, we’re presenting the “Most Embarrassing Contest.” Read the rest of this entry »

Arizona Wines from Maynard

Arizona Stronghold and Caduceus wines featuring Arizona fruit made popular by Maynard

Madonna, Dan Akroyd, Wayne Gretzky and James Maynard Keenan: what do these celebrities have in common? No, they haven’t all dated Paris Hilton. They all own their own wineries and in some cases vineyards.

James Maynard Keenan, more commonly referred to as Maynard, is best known as the ultra secretive, artsy and quirky  front man of the band TOOL. TOOL is a band that tends to be defined in many different ways because their musical styling can change from album to album but I hope we can all agree that TOOL is a rock band if we can’t all call it a metal band.

Maynard is one of the last celebrities I would have expected to move into the world of wine. Yes it is likely because I picture him shirtless with a mohawk, or with long greasy hair, or even just plain old sweaty and disheveled after performing a concert. I think it also doesn’t help that that’s also what most of the other people around me look like when I’m at a TOOL concert.  Read the rest of this entry »

Podcast delayed due to snow

Posted by Adam Rozenhart On December - 15 - 2010

I know that many of you were hoping — wait, even — for our annual Christmas episode to come out today. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, such as the extreme weather and Shaw shitting the bed once more on maintaining a half-ways decent internet connection, our Christmas episode will come out tomorrow. In the meantime, please enjoy this YouTube video — a Mario Brothers trailer done in the style of Grand Theft Auto. Merry Christmas!

Auction: dinner with the Unknown Studio

Posted by Adam Rozenhart On December - 7 - 2010

Do you like contests? So do I. So we’re doing one. But I need you to indulge me before we get to that. Allow me to spin some narrative action for you…

I’ve had a pretty good prize run of late. I won a prize at our company Christmas party, I won tickets to the 98th Grey Cup, I’ve won several books as door prizes over the last weeks… It seems a golden horseshoe is lodged firmly between my butt cheeks. You’d think I’d have noticed it by now.

And my streak continued this week unabated.

On Friday, I entered this little contest being run by the brand-spankin’ new Oodle Noodle that opened downtown on Jasper Ave between 108 and 109 St. It was a Twitter-based contest to win dinner for four at the new location. Since the amount of effort required to enter was so minimal, and since I’m on Twitter all day long anyhow, I entered.

I entered… and I won. Read the rest of this entry »
